ADZ – Green Youth Malta clarifies some errors in the Times of Malta article titled ‘AD: pardon drug prisoner’ (TOM AD: pardon drug prisoner April 14, 2013).

Firstly, all statements expressed were made by ADZ, not by AD. Secondly, Holmes was never found guilty of having sold marijuana but was incarcerated for cultivating a few plants for personal use. The ten year sentence was handed down because Maltese law treats cultivation automatically as tantamount to trafficking (irrespective of the amount cultivated).

ADZ calls for Holmes’ pardon due to disproportion between his crime and sentence, and for a revision of the respective laws to makes the necessary distinction.
